Presented by Russell Dobda, author of How To Spin the World Around: With Cheap Travel, Technology and Mindfulness.
With technology, traveling in the 21st century lets us to see the world more deeply and cheaply than ever before. Online social networks help us expand our circle of friends in the physical plane to all reaches of the planet, and smartphones keep us in in touch with these friends while we are not in their physical presence. These tools also provide hosts that will let us stay with them free and treat us like family anywhere in the world. Moreover, both the hosts and guests can then truly experience other cultures. No longer forced to live as tourists in a bubble of foreigners, we can take our travels to the next level of experience, especially as we live in the moment with a mindfulness practice. From there, we can capture the essence of these experiences and share them with others through social media. This creates a win-win situation for all: travelers get the inside scoop on all the best places to visit, dine, and experience the things unique to the places they visit; locals become tourists in their own town as they show travelers the sights; and social media subscribers get to see the world without leaving home.
